What Is Kybella?

Unfortunately, diet and exercise don’t always work when it comes to fat deposits under the chin. Due to various factors, such as genetics or the natural aging process, small pockets of fat in this area generally resist our best efforts to reduce them. Kybella is an injectable cosmetic treatment that targets submental fullness, also known as a "double chin." It uses deoxycholic acid, a substance naturally found in the body, to break down and eliminate fat cells and achieve a more defined, sculpted jawline.

  • Anyone looking for a non-surgical alternative to liposuction or other invasive procedures

The Kybella Procedure

Kybella is a short procedure that takes approximately 30 minutes to perform. It involves several small injections in the area under your chin. You may feel a slight stinging sensation at the injection site, but patients generally tolerate the treatment well. While most patients do not require anesthetic, a topical or local anesthetic is available for those who want to feel more comfortable. A series of injections are spaced out over several treatment sessions. The number of Kybella treatments needed will vary depending on each individual's unique needs and desired outcome.

Recovery and Results after Kybella

After a Kybella treatment, you can generally resume your normal routine right away. We'll apply a cool pack in the office, and you can continue using it at home if you like. You may experience some mild side effects, such as redness, swelling, and soreness, for the first week or so after the cosmetic treatment.

Typical results of the Kybella procedure include a more defined jawline and a reduction in submental fullness. Most patients see noticeable results after two to four treatments, with the final results appearing after several weeks. Results are long-lasting, as the destroyed fat cells will not return.
