Confidence Restored

While motherhood is a joyful experience, we also understand the toll motherhood can take on your sense of self. This is why we offer comprehensive procedures to get you back to feeling like you again. Our mommy makeover in Chicago combines surgical procedures intended to restore a woman's body's shape, contour, and appearance after pregnancy and childbearing. Commonly affected areas include the breast and abdomen. A mommy makeover typically consists of abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), breast augmentation (breast implants), and mastopexy (breast lift.) Other popular treatments among mothers include liposuction, vaginal rejuvenation, and anti-aging surgeries, such as blepharoplasty (eyelid lift). The two most popular procedures associated with a mommy makeover are tummy tucks and breast augmentation with lift.

Mommy Makeover Procedures

While a mommy makeover can include a wide range of procedures, the most common are generally breast surgeries, a tummy tuck, and liposuction.

Tummy Tuck

We offer two options for this procedure. A traditional abdominoplasty, or full tummy tuck, is the most common type. During this surgery, an incision is made along the bikini line from hip to hip. The abdominal muscles are tightened, excess skin is removed, and the area is contoured and shaped attractively. A tummy tuck is often paired with liposuction for optimal results. This method best suits patients concerned about loose skin or weakened abdominal muscles above and below their navel.

Mini Tummy Tuck

We offer a mini abdominoplasty, popularly known as a mini tummy tuck. The incision during this technique is usually smaller. This technique is ideal for patients with a small area of loose skin or stubborn fat below the belly button but who are otherwise happy with their upper abdomen.

Breast Augmentation and Lift

While either a breast augmentation or breast lift surgery can be performed without combining the two, if desired, many of our patients choose to have both procedures at once. During this surgery, your surgeon will make an incision to access the underlying breast tissue, and a pocket is created to insert the implant. The breast tissue is lifted and reshaped to enhance the projection and contour of the breast. The areola and nipple are also raised. Lastly, we remove excess breast skin and reduce enlarged areolas, if necessary. Once finished, our surgeon closes the incisions and places dressings.

Liposuction

This procedure resolves fat pockets that appear during or after pregnancy, which are challenging to get rid of. During liposuction, the fat cells are broken up and removed, achieving a more sculpted, toned appearance. This procedure can be applied to fat tissues in the abdomen, thighs, arms, or other areas that are difficult to reduce with diet and exercise.

The Recovery Period

If you elect to have a breast augmentation or other breast procedure, your breasts will be bandaged after surgery, and you will wear a support bra to reduce swelling and help your breasts heal in their new contours. Some swelling and bruising may persist for several weeks following the surgery. While your breasts will continue to “settle” over the following months, you will notice a change to your breast shape after surgery. The swelling will subside, and incision lines will fade over six to twelve months.

Recovery from the tummy tuck procedure involves taking time off work and limiting physical activity for several weeks to allow your body to heal. During this time, you can manage any discomfort with pain medication. You will wear a compression garment to reduce swelling and support healing.

While the procedures we offer vary for a mommy makeover, it’s important to note that most of them will follow similar recovery timelines and that the recovery period takes place all at once, rather than having multiple surgeries on separate occasions, each with their own recovery time.
