Many women considering lip fillers aim to enhance the natural shape of their lips, either due to thin lips or a desire for additional volume. However, the negative perception of fillers is often influenced by media portrayals of celebrities with overly exaggerated lips, leading to an association with excessive filler use. To address these misconceptions and empower women to feel confident in their choices, Concierge Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery will address the biggest misunderstandings about lip fillers, provide you with a bit of education and reassurance ~ Our practitioners are industry leading experienced injectors.

Myth #1: I'll have overly puffy lips if I get lip filler

Contrary to popular belief, large and unnatural-looking lips are not typical results of lip filler use. This is typically the result of excessive filler being used, often more than one syringe. Lip filler is meant to be used in moderation for a natural appearance, allowing you to choose the desired size.

At Concierge Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery, we only use one syringe of filler per treatment, which is a modest amount equivalent to just ⅕ of a teaspoon. If you want more volume, multiple treatments may be scheduled. Quick injections of a large amount of filler can lead to a puffy and translucent appearance, but spacing treatments over time will result in a more natural look.

Myth #2: If I end up with fish lips, there's nothing I can do to fix it.

Lip filler is not permanent! If you are not satisfied with the size or appearance of the filler, or if the injector at another practice wasn’t as skilled as our injectors at Concierge Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery,—it happens—rest assured, the filler can be easily dissolved. Concierge Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery offers this solution by administering a reversal agent, which will dissolve the filler within a week or two, usually within 2-3 days.

Myth #3: I will have stiff and unnatural feeling lips with Lip Filler

Some people fear that injections will make their lips stiff and hard. This varies based on the type and amount of filler used. Usually, lips should feel normal and soft, but can be firmer if desired. At Concierge Aesthetic & Plastic Surgery we prefer a natural, softer appearance, so we typically use fillers that achieve that effect.

Myth #4: You can simply walk-in for Lip Filler

Although some med spas may allow scheduling injections without consulting the injector first, Concierge Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery really does recommend having a preliminary discussion first. Consultations are free, so why wouldn’t you? During your consultation, your provider should evaluate the following:

  • Your aspirations and concerns
  • The ideal approach for your lips
  • The frequency of injections needed
  • The most suitable filler for you.

Bringing pictures of lips you like or dislike during the consultation can also be useful, as it will help the injector better understand your desired outcome. At Concierge Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery we feel it’s our job to help you create natural results with your lip filler.

Myth #5: No additional care is necessary after the injection.

Swelling and/or bruising can occur naturally due to the injection process involved with lip filler treatment. To minimize the risk, it’s best to schedule your appointment during a time when you have some down days and no social engagements. To help reduce swelling, you can follow a low-sodium diet and apply ice to the treated area every 30-45 minutes for several days after the treatment.
