During your breast reconstruction procedure, our team of experienced plastic surgeons will work to rebuild your breasts using a variety of techniques, including breast implants, tissue expanders, and autologous reconstruction. The procedure typically involves multiple stages, with the initial surgery being followed by additional procedures to refine the shape and symmetry of the breasts. Our team will work with you to determine the best approach for your needs and goals, and we will explain the procedure in detail, including any potential risks and benefits. If you choose to undergo breast reconstruction using implants, our team will place a silicone or saline implant beneath the chest muscle or breast tissue. If you choose to undergo autologous reconstruction, our team will use tissue from another part of your body to rebuild the breasts. This may involve removing tissue from your abdomen, back, or buttocks and transplanting it to your breasts.

Recovery and Results

The recovery period varies depending on the type of procedure you undergo. Our team will provide you with detailed instructions on how to care for yourself after surgery, including how to manage pain, dressings, and drains. In general, you can expect to experience some discomfort and swelling for the first week or two after surgery.

You may also experience some bruising, which should subside within a few weeks and we can provide you with pain medication to help manage any discomfort you may experience. You will need to avoid strenuous activities for several weeks after surgery, and you will need to wear a supportive bra or compression garment to help minimize swelling.

Most women can start to get back to normal activities within 6 to 8 weeks. If implants are used without flaps, your recovery time may be shorter. The results of breast reconstruction surgery can vary depending on the type of procedure you undergo, but in general, you can expect to see a significant improvement in the appearance and feel of your breasts.
